  1. Sagai:- The pompous celebration of a Marwari wedding starts with the ‘Sagai’ or the engagement, which is the first Marwari wedding ritual step in uniting the bride and the groom. It is organized by the groom’s family. In this ceremony, a tikka is applied on the forehead of the groom, and he receives all sorts of gifts and presents like swords, sweets, and clothes from the bride’s family.

Ganapathi Sathapna and Griha Shanti Ceremony:- This Marwari wedding ritual takes place a few days before the wedding where a havan is organized to offer prayers to the God Ganesh and ask him for his blessings for the bride and the groom. This can either be organized together by the bride and the groom’s family or separately.

  4. Pithi Dastoor:- This Marwari wedding ritual is popularly called the ‘Haldi’ ceremony, the family of the bride and the groom apply turmeric and sandalwood. However, after the Haldi is applied, the bride and the groom are not allowed to leave the house until their wedding day.

  5. Mahira Dastoor:- This is a ceremony in which the maternal relatives of the bride present the groom and their family with gifts, clothes, and jewelry, etc.

  6. Mehfils:- A Marwari marriage is all about the extravagant and ravishing celebration of the love the bride and the groom have for each other. The next ceremony in the pompous celebration is of Ladies sangeet or a Mehfil in which women dressed in stunning dresses perform their traditional dance of the Ghoomar.

  7. Janev:- In this Marwari wedding ritual, the groom is supposed to wear a saffron robe and then have to perform a havan. After the completion of havan, the groom has to wear a sacred thread called the Janev.

  8. Palla Dastoor:- A day before the wedding, the groom’s relatives bring some gifts and other similar presents to the bride’s house. Gifts consist of clothes, jewelry, and other similar items that the bride has to wear on the wedding day.

  9. Rajput Baraat:- Just like the traditional Indian Baraat, the groom mounts over the horse to go to the wedding venue. He has to hold a traditional sword in his hand as he is accompanied by the wedding procession.

  14. Pheras:- The bride and the groom take seven rounds around the sacred fire, to make their union in front of the gods.

  15. Ashwahrohan:- The bride puts her feet on a grinding stone as a symbol of steadfastness. After this Marwari wedding ritual, the bride’s brother gives her puffed rice, and then she, along with the groom, puts the rice in the holy fire. The groom then applies sindoor on the bride’s head.
